The first offering from SuperGiant games, published by WB Games, Bastion is a downloadable game exclusively for Xbox LIVE. It’s flipping beautiful. ‘Nuff said about that. See it for yourself.

You play as “The Kid” who is a likeable, initially silent character.

You wake up in the game world and you’re headed off to “The Bastion” because of “The Calamity” in the world you inhabit. “The Calamity,” caused the world to break apart into floating platforms.  You can (and you will) fall off these floating platforms to your doom. Some of the terrain will fall away under your feet. Some of it is destroyable.

“The Bastion” is where your civilization said it would go in an emergency, and it falls to you, our hero, to build it. “The Bastion” is the central hub world of the game.

A narrator comments on your progress as you go along. Hilarity ensues.  Different weapons like a maul, a sword. You have access to power-ups, health, and weapons. Monsters pop up out of the ground and attack you.

You can build shops around the world that provide services including: weapon crafting, drink brewing, and skill-and-weapon swapping. Speaking of weapons, there are a lot in the game. There are arrows, swords, mauls,

The really unique aspect of this game (one of many) is that the narrator is dynamic. He talks to you, he talks about you and the things that you’re doing in the game, and he’s a very funny guy.

I had lots of fun with this game.
