In addition to the news about a Kinect-less Xbox One SKU, Microsoft have revealed that you will no longer require Xbox Live Gold membership in order to access numerous apps, such as Netflix, Twitch, HBO Go and more.

This means that these apps will no longer be behind a paywall; they can be accessed at no extra cost. This is similar to Sony and Nintendo platforms where these apps can be used freely without a paywall in place, but this will be the first time such services will be available. It is currently unknown what effect this will have on sales, but coupled with the move to create an SKU without Kinect, it is likely to have a very positive impact.
