UPDATE: Microsoft has now told Gamezone that Downes' statement did not confirm Halo 2 Anniversary and told them what Downes had actually said, which was:
"I think you're ahead of yourself on H5. I have read some things on line that you can look forward to a H2 anniversary edition maybe this year, but I have no official information one way or the other."
Downes later told Gamezone: "It sounds like I was "confirming" [an] H2A edition, which I most certainly was not. I'm in no position to do that as I have no knowledge of it. I was only mentioning what I had seen on line about it."
Gamezone stands by its original story and quote from Downes.
ORIGINAL STORY: While there's been plenty of chatter about a Halo 2 Anniversary title this year (to commemorate Halo 2's tenth anniversary) and the inevitable release of Halo 5, nothing concrete has been announced yet. But if Master Chief's voice actor, Steve Downes, is to be believed, we'll be seeing Halo 2 Anniversary this year and Halo 5 next year.
“I think you may be ahead of yourself on Halo 5,” Downes said to Gamezone. “I wouldn’t expect anything until 2015. What you can look forward to this year is an anniversary edition of Halo 2." He did not mention any other details, such as developer, platforms or pricing.
Microsoft remains reticent on its future Halo plans, but a representative did tell Gamespot the following:
"We can confirm your next Halo journey will begin in 2014, but beyond that, we don’t have any details to share at this time."
It seems we're getting closer to the reveal of one of gaming's worst kept secrets.
