Mamoru Samuragochi, composer of 2001's Onimusha: Warlords and 1997's Resident Evil: The Director's Cut has been exposed as a fraud. The composer was rendered completely deaf at the age of 35, and has since continued to compose works that have earned him much popularity and notoriety in Japan. Dubbed "the Japanese Beethoven," Samuragochi claimed to be able to continue to compose through his "absolute pitch" long after he lost his hearing.
In reality Samuragochi has been attaching his name to the work of another, unnamed aid who composed the music for him. Samuragochi decided to come clean after all this time when Japanese broadcasting giant NHK aired a documentary about him. The revelation was made through a lawyer and apparently out of guilt. NHK is apologizing for the documentary, but had been completely unaware of his decades long deception.
