Indie Developers Will Have No Pricing Model Restrictions on Xbox One - News

Indie developers will not be restricted in their choice of pricing model on Xbox One, according to a Joystiq interview with Microsoft's portfolio director for digital games Chris Charla at PAX Prime. Charla said that the ID@Xbox (Independent Developers @ Xbox) program will open access to "every business model that any other game on Xbox One has."

Not included: Levitation device.

"On Xbox One, games that come through ID@Xbox are no different than any other game," said Charla. "They have full Gamerscore, full Achievements, can take advantage of SmartGlass, Kinect – if you can do it with an Xbox One game, you can do it with anything that comes through the ID@Xbox program. That's like a fundamental tenet of the program."

ID@Xbox is Microsoft's program that enables independent developers to use retail Xbox One units as developer kits. The program was announced last week. Self-publishing on Xbox One will not be available for the unit's November launch, but Microsoft has previously stated that self-publishing will be available at an undisclosed date in the future.
