According to the survey, the average gamer is 35 years old, married, and earns £23,000 per year, slightly below the UK average of £26,500.
They game for two and a half hours per day, five days a week, and stop at 10:58pm, taking roughly a month to complete a single game. They own 18 games on two consoles.
Gaming can cause problems in their relationships: they argue with their partner twice a week on average about gaming, and 15% have broken up with a partner due to gaming habits. However, it can also be a way of forming new friendships: the average gamer has five online friends, and 29% of those polled say that they have met an online friend in real life.
A third play local multiplayer, but only a quarter play online. 44% intend to buy a PS4, Xbox One or gaming PC in the next year. The most popular console was the Wii, followed by the PS3, with the Xbox 360 in last, which appears to be in conflict with the current sales figures from VGChartz, which put the Xbox 360 in first, the Wii in second and the PS3 in third in the UK.
