Amid the flurry of news for upcoming Nintendo titles today, a relatively large bomb was dropped for dedicated fans of the Pokémon series. Pokémon X & Y will include a brand new type of Pokémon, marking the first such addition since Pokémon Gold & Silver, when Dark and Steel type Pokémon were introduced. This new type will be the Fairy-type, and it is the typing of Eevee's new evolution, Sylveon.
Could this thing really be anything but a Fairy?
While the new typing is obviously intended to appeal to the feminine player base, it will have heavy metagame implications for all players. According to an "insider source" that leaked this new typing as well as several other details, Fairy-types will be very strong against Dragon-types, a typing undeniably at the top of the food chain in the competitive landscape. Older Pokémon, such as Jigglypuff and Gardevoir, will have the new Fairy typing retconned in to their makeup, as well.
So, what do you think? Are you excited by this metagame shifter? Angry it's not the Light-type? Annoyed they've put fairies in your Pokémon? Let us know your reaction!
