Today, Electronic Arts has announced that current Chief Executive Officer John Riccitello has stepped down from both his CEO and Board of Directors positions, effective March 30th.
Riccitello issued a statement in the EA announcement:
"EA is an outstanding company with creative and talented employees, and it has been an honor to serve as the Company's CEO. I am proud of what we have accomplished together, and after six years I feel it is the right time for me pass the baton and let new leadership take the Company into its next phase of innovation and growth. I remain very optimistic about EA's future — there is a world class team driving the Company's transition to the next generation of game consoles."
Former EA CEO Larry Probst will take over as CEO on an interim basis while the company searches for a successor. Probst was CEO of EA from 1991 to 2007 and has been the Chairman of the Board since 1994. The company will be searching both inside and outside of the gaming industry to find its new CEO.
