By Connor Weller, January 8, 2013

In an unexpected move, Nintendo today announced via their Pokemon Direct feed the 3DS titles Pokemon X and Y. These two games will be all-new adventures with all-new Pokemon and characters, including the starter Pokemon Fennekin (Fire), Chespin (Grass) and Froakie (Water).

The key difference in this game over previous iterations is that it will be dispalyed in 3D, as can be seen in the above screenshot. In addition, Pokemon X and Y will be the first game to have a simultaneous worldwide release, currently slated for October of this year.

The full 10-minute long Pokemon Direct stream can be seen here.
