It was teased last week, and now it's official: Angry Birds Star Wars is coming to PC, Mac and mobile platforms on November 8th. The game will be based on Angry Birds Space but with new features to fit into the Star Wars universe, such as levels in Tatooine and Hoth.
The birds will take on famous characters from the light side of the Force. Red Bird will become Luke Skywalker in his X-Wing, as one example. But this is not just a copy and paste job, says Paul Southern, VP of Licensing and Consumer Products Marketing at Lucasfilm Ltd. "They are not Angry Birds dressed up as Star Wars characters. They are characters in their own right." Naturally, the pigs will take on the role of the Dark side. "You will see a pig-esque Vader and pig-esque stormtroopers," Southern said.
Prior to Halloween, an Angry Birds Star Wars merchandise line will also be launched, adding to the franchise's highly successful ventures outside of the digital world. "We wanted this to feel like one of the biggest, if not the biggest, entertainment launches of the year," said Rovio's Andrew Stalbow.
This alliance adds to a growing number of Angry Birds partnerships. Rovio teamed up with NASA to release Angry Birds Space and with Dreamworks for Angry Birds Rio.
