The personal computer is one of the greatest technological marvels in human history. Over the years it has evolved into an indispensable piece of technology that has taken on many forms, from desktops to laptops to tablets and even smartphones. 2012 saw a number of great games release on the PC, across various methods of distribution. A game like Guild Wars 2 makes the world stop and take notice. ArenaNet’s new MMORPG, five years in the making, promised to be a game-changer in the MMORPG genre. Judging by the overwhelmingly positive response, they’ve succeeded in their goal. Gameplay-wise, it changed up many of the MMO genre's staples in a way that made both genre fans and newcomers feel welcome. Its world is stunning and full of detail, encouraging players to traverse every nook and cranny. Guild Wars 2 is the biggest MMO release in several years, and everything it brought to the table allowed it to eke out a win over many deserving competitors for our Best PC Game of 2012 Award.
