If you were to reminisce about your favourite moments in gaming, you'd likely remember the fantastic pieces of music that accompanied them. This is because soundtracks in video games shouldn't just accompany the gameplay, they should enhance the experience in every way imaginable. All of the games on this list had a score that blew people away, and even though only one can come out on top, all of them are exceptional.

Here are the Nominees:

Journey

Journey

Halo 4
Halo

Gravity Rush

GR

Mass Effect 3

ME3

And the Winner is...

Journey

Winner

Journey is much more than a video game. It's an emotional experience. If you haven't played it yet then go and do so, because if you don't you'll be missing out on one of the best games of this generation. All of the features present in Journey contribute and work together in order to create an experience like no other, and I challenge anyone to play Journey and not feel moved.

However, while all aspects of Journey are beautifully implemented, the soundtrack stands out above all others. The score - which was composed by Austin Wintory - accompanies you throughout your Journey, acting as a constant companion that is always twisting and pulling on your emotions. I sat here for a while before I realised that there are no words in my possession that can adequately describe this soundtrack.  I fear that my floundering attempts to describe it wouldn't even begin to convey just how beautiful the Journey OST is. Instead, I will simply say this: from the very start, to the very end, the Journey OST allows you to feel whatever it is you need to feel at any moment. That is why it deserves to be called the Best Original Music Score of 2012.
